
The industry saw strong sales in the month of October during the Mushroom Council’s pink promotion to support National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the partnership with City of Hope. The latest data from FreshLook Marketing shows that for the month of October, mushrooms were up 6.7% in dollars and 12.3% in pounds, the highest mushroom movement the industry has seen in any time period.
Note this strong upward retail trend. Thanks to YOUR individual efforts, which include use of the Council’s promotional partners, themes and templates. You may not have a large marketing budget, but you have all done a great job of making the most of it. Now if only we could figure out what to do about the global recession and its impact on eating out at restaurants that use mushrooms….
Foodservice media outreach resulted in a QSR article, Morning Meals at Night, about breakfast prominently featuring mushroom recipes and photos, including two full page photos of the Dunkin Donuts veggie breakfast sandwich and Mushroom Council consumer photo of the Mushroom Scramble Mug. Other September placements continued to keep mushrooms in salad, sandwich and ethnic stories.
The Examiner online highlighted mushrooms in the article “Edible Fungi – For the love of mushrooms.” The article outlined 10 types of mushrooms and included preparation tips, nutritional information and recipes. This placement garnered nearly 5.3 million impressions. Click here
In the July issue of Health magazine, mushrooms were featured in the article titled, “9 superfoods for women.” The article highlighted Mushroom Council-funded research and noted that mushrooms are a “super source of antioxidants.” This placement resulted in nearly 5.5 million impressions. In the June edition of Shape magazine, Mushroom Council-funded research on the weight management benefits of swapping mushrooms for meat was highlighted in the article titled, “Lose the Last 10 Pounds!” This placement resulted in nearly 7 million impressions.
