November marked the start of cold and flu season, and mushrooms’ with their ability to help maintain a healthy immune system caught media attention. National magazines including Woman’s World and Whole Living noted mushrooms as an immune-booster due to the antioxidant selenium, and Women’s Health promoted mushrooms as the “one-word answer” to help boost the activity of immune-system cells.
The October issue of Bon Appétit featured a photo of the pink tills and a review of City of Hope’s breast cancer research on mushrooms. The resulting article, “Superfoods: Mighty Mushrooms,” explains Dr. Chen’s research and includes a photograph of mushrooms in pink packaging for the fall promotion.
