In their lengthy “Are Plant Burgers Better than Beef Burgers?” feature, Washington Post recommends blending with mushrooms: “If you don’t like the taste of plant-meat alternatives or traditional store-bought veggie burgers, then consider making…a black bean and mushroom burger with balsamic-glazed onions. Another option is to make your own ‘blended’ burgers by using a combination of ground beef and plants such as black beans and lentils or mushrooms. You’ll get the taste of real meat combined with the health and environmental benefits of eating plants — without the ultra-processing.”
Last week’s Washington Post feature, “Mushrooms are the Darlings of Sustainability,” syndicated widely this week, with pick up in Yahoo, one of the nation’s largest outlets.
With food trend forecasting season upon us, mushrooms are already making the list. The Packer, Progressive Grocer and Produce Bluebook shares Fresh Thyme Markets’ top 10 2025 food trends: “Evolution of the mushroom — Adaptogenic mushrooms, which may help the body manage stress, anxiety and fatigue include varieties like lion’s mane will start to gain momentum. Expect to see more mushroom-based products in everyday pantry staples like pasta, broth and coffee, allowing consumers to effortlessly add its anti-inflammatory and sleep aid properties to their diets.”
Bon Appetit’s video/print article “I Need Mushroom Recipes” features publication editor host Chris Morocco helping caller Leah overcome her fear of cooking mushrooms by providing deep background, first-hand meetings with growers and receipt inspiration.
